Finally a warm sunny Sunday & a feast of excellent hockey. Congratulations to the boys coming third and winning a medal. We competed really well and played as a team producing some of our best hockey of the Season. We only went down to Cheltenham with the last hit of the match having spurned several good scoring opportunities. The results were;
v Cirencester Lost 2-1 (Sam Privett)
v Marlborough Won 1-0 (Sam Privett)
v Cheltenham Lost1-0
v Lydney Won 1-0 (Sam Privett)
Well done to Matt Holdaway GK, Rory Murfitt, Harry Godwin, Sam Privett, Ben Jenkins, Will Warley, Cameron Cox, Dexter Lee, Jack Williams.

The Girls battled hard against some strong teams and as usual represented the Club admirably. Unfortunately they did not make it out of their group to compete for medals. Results were;
v Cheltenham 3’s Lost 1-0
v Cirencester Drew 0-0
v Cheltenham 2’s Lost 3-1 ( Maddie Jenkins)
Well done to Ellen Symington, Imke Van Der Star, Georgina Paton, Kiana McDonald,Emma Winder,Izzy McGregor,Elisha Privett, Ellie Pearson,Ellie Lyburn, Maddie Jenkins)
Many thanks to Sally Privett & Paul Williams for running the girls team.
A big thank you & well done to Phil Sidey and the other Lansdown helpers for their efficient and smooth running of the tournament.
Finally, as usual, Lansdown had great vocal support from the parents.

PRESENTATION EVENINGS

This year we will be running two events, to celebrate our season, as numbers are too many to cater for everyone on one night. The Under 11’s and Under 9’s evening is on Friday 27th March 6 to 8 pm and the Under 13’s on Friday 3rd April 6 to 8 pm, both at Bentham Sports Club. The evening will take the format of previous years, an hour’s play in the sports hall (probably football & cricket) – no need to bring sticks – followed by food and awards. There will be the Stick Skill Award Certificates and lots of trophies as well as a children’s raffle.

The food will be ordered upon arrival and should be a choice of Sausages, Chicken Nuggets or Fish Fingers and Chips followed by Jelly and Ice Cream. There is a vegetarian option but we need to know this before the day. As we have had a couple of training sessions cancelled, these events are being subsidised by the club but we will be asking for £ 3.50 per head, which just covers the cost of the food. If any adults want the same food then they can also order this upon arrival.

We need to know numbers beforehand, in order to BOOK YOUR PLACE please contact Dave or Karen on 01242 233429 or 07958744180 before the 20th March.STICK SKILL AWARDS

Between now and the end of the season the U11 & U9’s will be concentrating on the Stick Skill Awards at training. These awards are based on a series of tests, designed by England Hockey, to reward improvement or skill acquisition and also encourage ongoing development as kids work towards higher stick skill standards. There are points awarded to achieve Gold, Silver, Bronze or Cub Standard. Everyone who takes part will get a certificate. There will also be prizes for the top achievers.

TOURNAMENTS

The monthly tournaments have been a great success, with a large number of children being given the opportunity to play. Our policy has been to give all players a chance to play rather than playing the strongest team available. Reports on these can be found on our website, under the Junior Section, at http://www.lansdownhockeyclub.co.uk please pay us a visit. Next Sunday 8th March does however see the more competitive Boys County Championships for U13’s & U11’s , where we will be playing our strongest sides available. The tournament runs from 10 to 4 pm at Dean Close School.

TRAINING

will run up to the 31st March, we will then be running sessions once a month over the summer, dates time & venue TBA.

Sunday 30th November 2008

Drew 0 – 0

The Lansdown Vixens side put in another impressive performance against the local team East Glos.

The Lansdown girls created some great chances in the first half with Liddy Ellis challenging her counterparts in midfield with some strong runs through the middle. New player Sophie Tagg had some great runs from the left into the dee and put the East Glos defence under pressure with fellow team mate Holly Wright. Lansdown maintained most of the possession in the first half and were unlucky not to score as they tested the East Glos keeper a number of times.

In the second half East Glos came out strong and created many chances through their midfield and forwards. The Lansdown defence had a lapse in concentration but goalkeeper Alice Hobbs made some great saves and kept Lansdown in the game. The Lansdown captain Kim Stevens had a great game at centre defence and when the pressure was on she encouraged her team to regain composure from some heavy attacks. Kim created some lovely play and worked hard to get the ball out of defence and into the midfield.

Both teams had chances up until the final whistle and the result reflected some strong defensive play from both teams. The Lansdown team was much improved again and the girls grow with confidence and ability every match.

Congratulations to the Lansdown goalkeeper Alice Hobbs who was voted as player of the match by the East Glos team for the second week in a row!
