Mens 3rd v Newent report Monday, February 23, 2009Posted by Admin in Cheltenham Hockey, Match Report, Mens 3rd XI.
Lansdown had a very tough game versus a Newent side that had become younger and almost completely South African since they conceded 15 goals in 2 games earlier in the season versus Lansdown teams.
Tony Moule and Chris Walton setup DP to open the scoring, but Newentboks equalised for 1-1 at half time.
The second half was end to end stuff, Simon Clarke and the rest of the defence playing well under alot of pressure at times – Newent had a goal disallowed from a short corner. Pete Holdaway swapped to the forward line, and with the first XI arriving for their game cheering them on, Lansdown created some chances, Paul Williams fed Paul Bickell and his cross was diverted under the keeper by DP for the winner.
Lansdown, in 2nd, have 5 games left and are at Hereford away next.
