Mens 1st XI 4 Devizes A 0 Saturday, September 27, 2008Posted by Steve Vickery in Cheltenham Hockey, Match Report, Mens 1st XI.
Lansdown first eleven continued there impressive run of performances from the pre-season, with an encouraging 4-0 victory over Devizes A in the opening league match of the season. The first goal was scored by James Davies who slotted home his first league goal for Lansdown, and the opening goal of the match after Lance Worth put him through one on one with the keeper. Moments later Ben Snape doubled the lead scoring an exact copy of the first. Both goals were scored within the first fifteen minutes of the game and although Devizes raised their game, Lansdown were controlling the game. Lansdown created more chances, however were unable to capitalise on any of them and were indeed indebted to a combination of Ace Cupper and Rob Mudge who kept out a Devizes short corner. Half time came and the score was two nil to Lansdown. The second half started the same as the first with Lansdown controlling the game and the lead was soon extended when Si Trower blasted home on the half volley from a ricochet off the keeper after a James Davies shot. From this point Devizes heads seemed to drop and after a number of short corners captain Paul Vickers converted a well taken routine. This was the last significant action of the game and overall Lansdown were well worth the 3 points. Thanks should go to the supporters/waterboys who turned up to cheer us on.
