Ladies 1’s 5 – Cheltenham 3 Saturday, February 9, 2008Posted by becky in Cheltenham Hockey, Ladies 1st XI, Match Report.
The ladies continued their unbeaten record with a scrappy game away to Cheltenham. Lansdown opened the scoring after 6 minutes when Kim Pullen struck from close range. Lansdown continued to press and were rewarded with several short corners. Nina Powell converted one of these with one of her trademark strikes. Cheltenham had several chances and had a strike saved off the line by Julia Smith, a penalty stroke saved by keeper Kels but they didn’t give up and they finally scored after 25 minutes from a short corner. Lansdown had the last say in the first half with a goal by Hannah Moon to make it 3-1 at halftime.
Both teams had further chances in the second half to score and it was Lansdown who struck first. Helen Wicks picked up the ball just in the attacking 25 beat 3 players and then thumped the ball past the on coming keeper. A well taken goal and some good advantage play from the umpires. Cheltenham pulled a goal back midway through the half but Lansdown just stepped up the pressure once more with Ammo Randle scoring Lansdown’s fifth. Cheltenham were awarded a short corner on full time which they converted to make the final score 5-3. It wasn’t the prettiest of games and we didn’t play our best hockey but we won the three points so well done team. Thanks also to all our supporters who came to watch – it is very much appreciated.
