Mens 1st XI 2 Westbury & UB A 1 Saturday, January 26, 2008Posted by Steve Vickery in Cheltenham Hockey, Field Hockey, Match Report, Mens 1st XI.
Lansdown mens 1st XI won their sixth game out of seven when they won at home against Westbury. In a game which created few chances all goals were scored from short corners. Westbury will look back on the game and see it as an opportunity missed, as they had the lions share of territory and possession, however they never really seemed to break a determined hard working Lansdown side down. The first goal was scored after a Si Trower effort from a short corner rebounded to Andy Allen, who reverse lifted the ball into the back of the net. Westbury equalised when a direct hit from a short hit keeper George Lampkin on the hip and the ball flew into the roof of the net. The winner was scored by Si Trower when the ball balloned into the air at the back post and Si was cool enough to let the ball drop low enough to volley the ball into the back of the net. Man of the match went to Si Trower.
