Mens 2nd XI 1 Llanishen & Caerphilly 2 Friday, December 14, 2007Posted by mrfolds in Cheltenham Hockey, Field Hockey, Match Report, Mens 2nd XI.
A disappointing performance & result in a scrappy, bad tempered match played in difficult conditions. We started well and took the lead when Tony Moule made a good run down the right and his cross was met by Paul Williams, whose shot was saved off the line illegally. Andy Allen coolly converted the penalty stroke. All looked well and we were playing some good hockey however our team play began to fall apart and the opposition were allowed back into the match equalising before half time, from a hotly disputed short corner. The second half became very scrappy with neither side playing well and scoring opportunities at a premium. Tony Moule was denied scoring by an excellent save from their keeper and Niall produced an equally good save to deny the opposition. Dan Caudle had yet another solid game and coped really well with the over physical play. The winning goal was a soft effort which should have been kept out, although Niall claimed he was being impeded. Despite the poor result and performance spirits were raised by our xmas nite out and the news that our result against Whitchurch had been reversed to a 5 -0 victory.
