Lansdown slipped to a demoralising defeat at home against the Somerset Gryphons. a practically full strength Lansdown side started well and deservedly took the the lead when Si Trower scored from a short corner. Lansdown then stretched their lead when Jon Weir finished a rebound from an Andy Allen shot. The Gryphons then replied with an extra ordinary goal when the ball ricocheted off a Lansdown stick into the D at head height, It was a Gryphons players who reacted first when he played a forehand to put the ball into the back of the net. Lansdown then restored their two goal lead when some neat work from Andy Allen saw him finish in the bottom corner. Again the Gryphons replied, this time a mix up on the Lansdown goal line saw the ball fall to a Gryphons player who made no mistake from a yard. Half time came and Lansdown were 3-2 in front and will probably wonder how the Gryphons were still in the game. The second half was a completely different story with the Gryphons dominating proceedings. The Gryphons went close on a couple of occasions with Steve Vickery making a goal line clearance. Eventually the Gryphons scored the first of their three second half goals when the Gryphons scored from a short corner routine. The fourth goal was a well executed drag flick and the third was in the dying moments of the game when whilst chasing an equaliser Lansdown surrendered possession and were caught completely exposed at the back. Lansdown will see this game as an opportunity missed, to surrender a 3-1 lead and lose 5-3 was very disappointing. Credit must go to the Gryphons who showed great spirit to fight back from 3-1. Man of the match was Andy Allen.
