Mens 1st XI 0 North Bristol 1 Monday, November 5, 2007Posted by Steve Vickery in Cheltenham Hockey, Field Hockey, Match Report, Mens 1st XI.
Lansdown 1st XI slipped to their third successive defeat at home to North Bristol. There was however a lot to be positive about considering the number of key players missing. A debut was given to Matt Exton and many thanks to James Smith for coming back from university for us. The first half was a stalemate with both sides sharing possession and territory with Stu Toon and Sam Bailey performing well. In the second half our visitors found that extra gear and started to create more chances. Without George Lampkin making a string of fine saves Lansdown would have gone down sooner. The pressure did eventually turn into a goal for North Bristol when a short corner was converted with a well executed drag flick. Lansdown then took the game to North Bristol but never really looked like troubling the keeper and were perhaps guilty of going to direct in search of an equaliser. The game finished with a win for North Bristol who now go joint top. Lansdown can be proud of their performance with youngsters Martin Stevens, Jon Weir, Sam Bailey and Stu Toon giving performances which suggest they will have a big part to play in the remainder of the season. Man of the match went to Stu Toon.
