Mens 1st XI 1 Leominster 2 Monday, October 29, 2007Posted by Steve Vickery in Cheltenham Hockey, Field Hockey, Match Report, Mens 1st XI.
A severely depleted Lansdown team missing six first team regulars made the journey to Leominster. Debuts were given to Dan Caudle and Martin Stevens. The game started with Leominster controlling possession. However with all their possession the defence of Sam Bailey, Lance Worth, Stephen Vickery and Martin Stevens held them out. In fact it was Lansdown who made the best clear cut chances with make-shift center forward George Lampkin going close a couple of times before he opened the scoring from a tight angle. The second half started with Leominster again controlling possession and they eventually opened the scoring from a short corner, when Ace Cupper saved well only for the ball to land at the feet of a Leominster forward who made no mistake equalising. Leominster then scored what proved to be the winner when they counter attacked and managed to bundle the ball into the back of the net. Lansdown fought well through out the game and no body could criticise the effort put in. But until captain George Lampkin is able to be reasonably consistent in his selection of players games like this will be a struggle. Man of the match was Martin Stevens.
