The ladies 1’s enjoyed their second home victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Cheltenham. From the whistle Lansdown ran at the Cheltenham defence and were awarded a short corner when Helen Wicks was fouled in the circle.  Nina Powell  converted the corner with the help of a deflection into the top left corner. 1-0 Lansdown with only a minute played. Lansdown continued to pressure the Cheltenham defence and were awarded numerous short corners but failed to convert, Julie Stowe, Hannah Lloyd and Deb Lamper all going close. Cheltenham tried to hit the Lansdown defence on the break but the defenders Karen Fynn, Julia Smith, Hannah Leathart and Kelly Bowden held firm. The second half continued as the first with alot of the play happening in the midfield. Alice Vigor and Sian Edwards made good progress down the right. Kim Pullon and Helen Wicks also made excellent defence splitting runs but Lansdown just couldn’t convert the final pass. Tempers were frayed at times and the game saw three yellow cards shown, one for Lansdown and two for Cheltenham. Lansdown’s second goal came 10 minutes from time. A short corner strike by Becky Mawby and then a tussle in front of goal saw the Cheltenham keeper smoother the ball and a penalty stroke awarded. Captain Julie Stowe confidently converted the stroke placing it right of the keepers head. Cheltenham pushed for their consolation goal but the Lansdown defence were not to be beaten with Julie Stowe saving a ball off the line. Thanks to all our supporters, you gave us a real boost. Next weeks game is away to newly promoted Salisbury.
