Mens 1st XI 0 Cheltenham A 3 Monday, October 1, 2007Posted by Steve Vickery in Cheltenham Hockey, Field Hockey, Match Report, Mens 1st XI.
The mens first team made the journey to play local rivals Cheltenham in our first local derby of the season. The game started with Cheltenham impressing immediately by dominating both territory and possession. As always we fought hard and managed to keep the Cheltenham side out for most of the first half. The opening goal came when we surrendered possession of the ball in a defensive position one time to many and the ball was played to the top of the D where a Cheltenham forward finished well to take a deserved 1-0 lead. In the remaining moments of the half we crept back into the game and had a few chances with the Cheltenham keeper saving particularly well from Ned Lack. The second half was a marked improvement with a change of formation paying dividends. Both sides had chances, however unfortunately for us Cheltenham scored the all important next goal from a short corner. In the dying moments of the game Cheltenham converted another short corner to make the final score 3-0. The well drilled Cheltenham side were good value for their three points, but the 3-0 final score was a tad harsh on us after a battling performance.
