Ladies 1’s v Bath Buccs Saturday, March 3, 2007Posted by becky in Cheltenham Hockey, Field Hockey, Ladies 1st XI, Match Report.
The ladies first XI opened their account against a difficult Bath team with an early goal from Becky. Bath were awarded a short corner against the run of play but the defence prevented a clear shot on goal and made a quick break away with Ammo providing the final pass for Becky to strike home from the top of the ‘D’. Bath struggled to get out of their half for the next 10 minutes and we created several chances to make it 2-0, but were unable to convert the excellent crosses from Lloydy, Tash and Moonie. The half ended 1 – 0. The game didn’t flow as well in the second half, there were a few stick tackles flying in which broke up the flow of the game but we stuck at it and were awarded an early short corner. A slick move saw Julia’s shot take a deflection into the roof of the net. 2 – 0 Lansdown. But Bath didn’t give up and the game became very scrappy, we just couldn’t string more than 4 passes together and that frustrated us. Bath were awarded a lucky short corner which they converted and gave them the belief that they could get a point from the game and that is exactly what they did. Another short corner and they made the score 2 – 2. We tried to re-group and score a late winner but luck wasn’t on our side and the score ended 2 -2. A disappointing result for the team but plenty of positives to take away to our next game against Cheltenham. Thanks to all those that came to watch and support us – it is very much appreciated.
