Ladies 1st XI 4 – Plymouth 1 Sunday, February 18, 2007Posted by becky in Cheltenham Hockey, Ladies 1st XI, Match Report.
The 1st XI’s fastest goal of the season with Ammo scoring after just 1 minute and 50 seconds set the scene for a great team performance against bottom side Plymouth. Plymouth were under strength and we were able to apply pressure on their midfield very early on. We pressed for our second goal but the Plymouth goalkeeper made some excellent saves to keep them in the game.
The second half continued as the first with the Plymouth goal under continued pressure and we finally scored our second goal with Wixy striking the ball home. Plymouth rallied and won a couple of short corners but some good keeping by Kelly and a goal line save by Julia kept the visitors at bay. We regrouped and Ammo scored her second mid way through the half. The game became a battle between the midfield and the experience of Nina, Ammo and Stowey kept Lansdown in control. The fourth goal came from one of Wixy’s unstoppable runs and we had chances to score more but the Plymouth keeper again made some good saves. Plymouth never gave up and caught us napping and scored their concelation goal with 6 minutes to play. The visitors played some really nice hockey and certainly don’t deserve to be bottom of the league. We were just the better team on the day.
