A hard fought game and against all the odds the ladies 1’s came away with a point after their 1 – 1 draw with ISCA. It was a weekend where all four teams were struggling for players, everyone had the bare 11 apart from the 4’s who only had 10.

Our game started evenly with both teams fighting for good possesion of the ball, but after about 7 minutes Lansdown were reduced to 10 players after a deflected ball smacked Hannah Lloyd in the head. Hannah was all set to continue, but the lump the size of an egg on her head meant she needed to go off. However, we didn’t let this faze us and some outstanding goalkeeping by Kelly, strong defending by Karen, Jo and Alice gave us all the belief that we could still win the game. With that belief we were awarded a penalty corner midway through the first half which we converted – Nina striking the ball home. Our second injury of the game came just before half time with Wixy pulling a muscle in her leg meaning running wasn’t really possible, so at half time we did another re-shuffle playing Wixy as the high player.

ISCA came out hard in the second half trying to make their eleventh player count, but the resolve of the team was fantastic. Kelly was saving everything, Karen, Jo and Alice were stopping the attacking runs and the midfield, Ammo, Nina, Moonie, Tash and Bex swept up the pieces and tried to keep possession and set up an attack. But lets not forget Wixy – even with her pulled muscle she did some blistering runs and went very close to scoring, but the ISCA keeper was also having a good game.

ISCA finally got their equaliser from a reverse stick miss-hit 3 minutes from time. We walked off the pitch gutted to have not won, but the team should be very proud of their achievements. We could have easily lost this game so don’t be disheartened – you played out of your skins!
