The seconds took all three points against Chepstow to maintain third place in Severn division. A scrappy match in difficult conditions saw us battle hard despite not playing well. This was our first match since the Christmas break and we all seemed a bit rusty and lacking match fitness! We took a first half lead when Andy Allen beat the keeper from the top of the circle following a good passing move. Jon Thompson and Andy Allen took the game to Chepstow and were particularly well supported by midfielders Darren Ashenhurst and Mark Williams but we could not force a second. The second half, up hill into the wind, saw Chepstow come back strongly and they pulled an early goal back with a powerful shot, that gave Ace no chance. We  then defended really well with Rich Fear, Tim Postlethwaite, Pete Holdaway and Sid Ellis marking tightly and tackling strongly. Ace Cupper made several good saves to keep the scores level. The winning goal came mid way through the half when Jon Thompson’s powerful run saw him round the keeper and strike the ball home from a narrow angle. With the top two teams loosing we are still in touch with the leaders and next face local rivals Stroud, at home, who are just behind us in the league.
