Lansdown 2 Llan and Caerphilly 1

Lansdown earned another hard fought victory away in Wales. Lansdown created more of the chances throughout the match but for once the forward line had an off day. Jon Thompson was off colour until five minutes from time when he received his favourite! Andy Allen could not produce his mid-week form. The midfield of Ian Matthews, Dave Holdaway, Mark Williams and Nick Fairburn were forced to work to work hard and were rewarded when Matthews superb strike from the edge of the circle found the top right hand corner of the goal. The opposition forced a scrappy equaliser before half time.

The second half saw some good marking and tackling from the Lansdown defence bolstered by the return of Sid Ellis and Mark Evetts. Tim Postlethwaite man marked their dangerous centre forward out of the game and Rich Fear produced some strong runs out of defence to set-up attacks. Lansdown secured victory mid-way through the half when Williams and Holdaway combined down the right and Holdaway’s cross was well finished by Jon Thompson from close range.
