Blockley 2’s 1 – 2 Ladies 4’s (Sat 25 Nov) Monday, November 27, 2006Posted by Admin in Cheltenham Hockey, Field Hockey, Ladies 4th XI, Match Report.
Lansdown began the match very strongly putting a lot of pressure on the Blockley defence right from the start. After plenty of missed opportunities Lansdown managed to score midway through the first half with a good strike from Bart. Blockley did get a couple of scoring opportunities during the first half but some solid defending and goal-keeping meant that Lansdown finished the first half without conceding.
Lansdown began the second half with plenty of surging runs through the midfield continually putting pressure on the Blockley defenders. A great strike from Jess saw Lansdown go 2 – 0 ahead early in the second half. Lansdown continued to apply pressure, but missed many opportunities. Lansdown gave away a short corner midway through the half and from this a lucky deflection saw the ball past the keeper to give Blockley their goal. Lansdown continued to put pressure on the Blockley defence to try and get a goal to seal the victory, but a catalogue of chances went begging from the forwards. A great effort was made by the Lansdown midfield and defence to prevent Blockley from getting an equaliser. The 3 points for Lansdown will no doubt give them a confidence boost for their game against Wooton under Edge next week.
