Mens 2nds 4 – 4 Cardiff Uni

Lansdown paid the price for lacking the killer instinct in a topsy turvy match. A very much younger uni side took an early lead and Lansdown looked like they might be in for a difficult match as the opposition dominated the early exchanges. However, following a superb Jon Thompson short corner strike Lansdown suddenly turned the game on its head & produced a devastating period of play. A quickly taken free hit from Dave Holdaway found Mark Williams down the right & his run & cross was brilliantly met by Thompson with another powerful strike for his second. Thompson, who was on fire all match, was then denied his hat-trick when his shot hit the post, but the rebound was put in by Dan Lane. Lansdown then added a fourth before half-time when Tim Postlethwaite’s timely defensive interception & pass found Dave Holdaway whose pass into the circle was clinically put away by Captain Andy Allen.

The second half saw Lansdown start the stronger, but were denied extending the lead by two good saves & failed to convert several short corners. The Uni then fought back in style & following a break away goal dominated the last quarter adding further goals to draw level. Lansdown could have lost, but for some excellent saves from keeper Ace Cupper & one particularly poor piece of finishing!

Cheers,

Dave Holdaway.
