Ladies 1st XI v Taunton Vale Sunday, October 8, 2006Posted by Admin in Cheltenham Hockey, Field Hockey, Ladies 1st XI, Match Report.
Lansdown 1 – Taunton Vale 3
The ladies 1st XI were looking for their first win of the season and were looking to build on their 2 – 2 draw away at Plymouth the week before. Lansdown started well and had several close chances very early on but finally found the back of the net mid way through the first half. A defence splitting pass by Nina Powell gave Helen Wicks a clear run to the top of the circle where she clinically shot the ball past the oncoming goalkeepers left ear! An amazing goal!
Lansdown continued to pressure the Taunton defence and were hit on the break a couple of times but Goalkeeper Kelly Bowden made some very good saves. The half ended 1 – 0.
After the break, Taunton came back strong and soon equalised. Lansdown continued to dominate in midfield but just couldn’t find the back of the net. Taunton took the initiative mid way through the second half to make it 2 -1. Lansdown pushed forward to get the equaliser and Becky Mawby, Nina Powell and Anne-Marie Randle all came close.
Unfortunately Lansdown were caught on the counter attack and Taunton scored their 3rd goal with 10 minutes to play. Lansdown tried to rally, but it just wasn’t their day.
The ladies are at home again this Saturday at Bournside School so if your free please come and support us. We are playing at 2.00pm.
